NFTorNot

Vote for hottest AI images and convert them to NFTs

Details

ETH India is Asia's largest hackathon where builders get to explore cryptographic and decentralized technologies like Ethereum.

I, along with four engineers from my team, participated in the hackathon to build a concept in 48 hours.

Timeline

2 Days Hackathon

Goal

1

Explore web3.0 technology

2

Build something using generative AI

3

Understand decentralized social networks frameworks

4

Learn a lot about emerging technologies

Pre-Hackathon

What is ETHIndia?

ETHIndia is Asia's largest hackathon — a place where the leading minds in the Ethereum ecosystem unite with over 1500 builders from around the globe to build decentralized applications for the future.

Exploring sponsors and technologies

Before the hackathon started, we wanted to narrow down our concepts and the new web 3.0 technologies we wanted to explore. Though the choice was tough among so many, we finalized on a few:

Ideas

Since time was short, we wanted to have fun and learn. To this end, we started thinking of games that we used to play as kids. These discussions led us down the rabbit hole of one of the first social media sites of the 2000s: Hot or Not.

Based on this idea, I came up with the basic flows for our Hot or Not journey, how it interacts with the Lens Protocol, how we use it to create an NFT using the ERC27 contract, and how we tie it into a gamified experience:

I quickly whipped out some wireframes, envisioning how Hot or Not will look in the 2020s built on open web protocols:

The catch? We use A.I. images to compete instead, promoting playful explorations with then newly introduced generative AI models.

Lets Hack

Day 1

Quickly, we realized that working on multiple aspects of the product proved problematic. To help us work faster and as a reference for my teammates I created a simple information architecture:

Alongside, I had already prepared all the assets and a small design library for my team to get started with:

Helping and collaborating with them on any product decision.

Day 2

I took the responsibility of creating a narrative and preparing how we will present our idea and demo to the judges.

Alongside, I prototyped in Figma to give help my team with something tangible to play around with as they implemented it using Lens and Stable Diffusion.

Results

We built NFT or Not and successfully demoed it on time for ETHIndia'22. Although, we did not win the grand prize for using Lens, we were given a lot of goodies by the lens team!

Also a small prize from PUSH protocol:

Also a small prize from PUSH protocol :)

Learnings

Working with new, ambiguous technologies in a short period of time

Building metaphors and language that makes it easy for users to understand such technologies.

Being a team player and keeping morale up in high-stress situations.

This project would not have been possible without

my team who sponsored this project

my design team who helped me later
